My Summer Reading and Podcast List

BY MICHAEL SICURANZA

Each summer, I come up with a list of the books that I’m reading, and the podcasts I’m listening to, to grow. I try to venture outside of my industry to see what other industries are doing, so that Affinity Wealth can better serve our clients.

Books I’ve Read Recently

  • Limitless by Jim Kwik – Jim had a massive brain injury when he was a child, learning became hard for him, and this is the journey and methodology he used to gain his brain capacity back and teach himself how to learn.  My favorite tips were wrapped around speed reading.

  • Stillness is the Key by Ryan Holiday – As everyone knows, Ryan is one of my favorite authors.  In this book, he continues his Socratic approach to life.

  • No Ego and Reality Based Leadership by Cy Wakeman – These two books discuss how as leaders, we can eliminate drama in the workplace and mentor employees to take more ownership of their lives and careers.

  • Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins – This is an amazing true story of David Goggins, how he overcomes racism, an abusive father, and his environment to excel at life. This story is one of pushing the limits of mind, body and soul.  Warning – lots of foul language.

My Current Podcast Playlist

Business and Self Improvement:

  • No Ego Podcast by Cy Wakeman – In her podcast, Cy goes through several current scenarios that leaders face in dealing with virtual cultures and working environments.

  • Technical Analysis Radio by JC Parets – JC runs one of my favorite sites, All Star Charts, and I find his market analysis priceless.

  • On Your Mark, Get Set, Grow and Between Now and Success by Steve Sanduski – You might know Steve from his time at Ron Carson’s firm, or his current coaching company, Belay Advisors. I think Steve is one of the best interviewers around and in this podcast, he interviews many people from all sorts of businesses on how they are achieving greatness.

Entertainment:

  • The Re-Watchables – As part of the Ringer Podcast network, Bill Simmons and his team dissect those movies that you know you stop to watch while flipping through channels. Just plain fun.

  • The Game of Thrones Podcast – Covering all things Thrones, it is for those book and TV show junkies. Deep dives into theories and what went wrong with the show relative to the books. A great escape for us Sci-Fi/Fiction lovers.

I could go on and on, but I think that is a good start if you are looking for something to read or listen to. Please let me know what has made an impression on you.
